Is it normal that i just want to take the medication but not the therapy?

I was diagnosed a long time ago with depression and anxiety. I have had some really rough patches, but I am not really in one right now. I have seen a few therapists but it always ends up making me feel worse. Is it normal that I just want to take the medication and not see a therapist? EVER? I end up wanting to bash their heads into a wall after a few months.

I disagree with the last commenter - a good therapist won't won't to make you more "normal" or "boring" they'll want to make you more YOU. I have some traits that are in some way connected to my anxiety or depression that I love about myself, but there are many more that stop me from expressing who I am. And even if you've changed your brain chemicals, it's still really hard to get out of the patterns you fell into while your brain was still feeling the other way.

So I would recommend "shopping" around for a therapist - you're supposed to do this! The problem is that at least for me my anxiety gets in the way of that - I don't want to look bad, or hurt someone's "feelings" (NOT the way you should look at it - they're professionals! But that's how I feel) so I don't do this. I was lucky and ended up with someone really good, but there have been some not so great ones too. Try to really open up about what bothered you about your old therapists when you're interviewing new ones, and gauge how they react. And if the one you finally chose starts bugging you a few months in be super honest about it - it annoys me when you do x because of y. It makes me want to stop coming. They won't take it personally (or at least they shouldn't if they're any good) and it will be better all around.

Yeah I think so. The therapist will want to change who you are, that is make you more sociable, proper, and all that, basically normal, which is usually boring. The medicine just helps you not to feel depressed and anxious all the time, so you can be who you really are on the inside. I feel this way too as I was diagnosed with anxiety and prescribed medication with therapy. They just want the medication to open you up for therapy, but if you don't feel you need to change into a different kind of person then I don't see the problem

You have walls up which dont allow you to express your deep emotional feelings to others and you feel wierd doing so which makes you want to keep it to yourself or just not even think about it, i believe its normal because meds are there to help you and if they are, there is no need to bring up the past which has hurt you so you just dont lol sorry if im wrong, im just assuming its that way

Currently therapists believe in a collaboration of meds n therapy. Especially for anxiety disorders this has proven to be most effective. I suggest you look for a therapist that suits you, as you theoretically have the best chance at maintaining a mentally healthy state with therapy.
