Is it normal that i have this fluttery feeling when having physical contact

I get this warm fluttery feeling in my chest and stomach area when I'm being touched (in a not perverted way). It feel very blissful and peaceful and airy and floating. Like I just want to close my eyes and sigh, and let the contented feeling take over. It happens when someone makes physical contact. It is one of the best feelings that I have these days, though I do have depression.

I am going to list some of the examples of what causes this feeling:
- when someone does something with my hair, like playing with it or making it up
- when someone applies makeup on me; when I get a massage, or just like physical touching, but not too close that I feel uncomfortable
- when my cat licks me(hands, arms, feet)
- when a professional person (doctor or even friend) talks to me in a soothing voice
- when I have a crush (but this doesn't happen often)
- if someone breathes on my neck, in dreams (I'd probably freeze up in real life)

Other details that I think might be related: I have never had a boyfriend, but I am young. My mother and I don't hug and stuff. My mother hasn't hugged me in a while, we are not that close and haven't been for a while/long time. Whenever I receive hugs, it's an awkward half rigid hug, (because of social anxiety?) So basically, I rarely have physical contact with people if at all. And I have social anxiety or even general anxiety.

This is not the "butterflies in stomach feeling", it feel much better and blissful. I think that others might have this feeling too... but what is it called and what induces it for you?

It's called ASMR. Most people describe it as a tingling feeling that starts in their scalp and travels through their limbs. It is very relaxing. Definitely nothing sexual. I first noticed it when I was around 6. You can Google it or look it up on YouTube. People upload videos about it all the time, even ones to intentionally help people get that relaxing feeling you're talking about.

Are we the same person? I often feel the EXACT same way! Everything you described fits me, except I don't put on makeup. I've been searching the internet for what this is, but I can't find anything. Maybe it's just because we haven't had much physical contact so our bodies are really happy to have it. I also get it when someone is using my computer though, so I don't really know if its just physical...

I already replied to OP's post but I figured I'd reply to your comment so you can find out what it is. It's ASMR. Look it up on YouTube or Google it. :)
I'm very sure it doesn't have to do with lack of physical contact. There isn't much science behind it though.
Anyway, I hope I've helped you and OP out. If not, maybe some other random person.

    • Lol, I don't wear makeup either. Good theory though, I think that's a good theory. And you get that feeling when someone's using your computer?

Yes. I don't have a lot of friends and people don't really pay any attention to me, so I guess that when someone pays close attention to me and my stuff I get the feeling. It's really nice. I also get it when I get a haircut.

            Wow just wow.
Every thing u and chloroplast said can definitely describe how and what makes me feel this way. How old ru though ? Iam 22 and my family didnt show me much love when i was young so i guess maybe this is the reason i dunno.

I'm the same way, but only around crushes or people I find attractive. If you ever fall in love with someone, probably everything about them will make you feel that way.

Same here but I only get it in certain situations, really it depends on who I'm having psychical contact with.

may be its because you're not touched that much since childhood and when its done the feeling is so new and different for you that you feel this way.

It's human nature to seek comfort when you're depressed. These small things are important you because you feel deprived of something. Everyone feels better when they recieve welcoming touches. For example, at a funeral you see grieving people holding each other- so that they feel supported and held up by one another. Or when a person feels like crying but they hold back, until a caring friend rubs their back or hugs them. And there are times of rejoice, like when you find out your wife is pregnant and you kiss her, etc. Physical touches mirror feelings, and if you don't allow your feelings to register, they'll take you by surprise.

        • No, unfortunately not. I usually stay in a state of apathy, so that's why I'm wondering about this.
