Is it normal that i have lots of ideas, but i'm too lazy to try them out?

I'm a well known artist in my area, with many ideas at my disposal. At this point, my mind is overflowing with ideas yet I'm way too lazy at the moment to even try using them. In fact, I have lots of half-finished pieces that I'm not willing to finish (i.e I still need to shade or color). All the artists out there, is this normal?

I get it too man. Confidence will break it out. I read recently in a music mag in Melbourne some interview with a musician. I'm not even that big a fan, but the guy said 'stop trying to be authentic and just write a fucking song'. And when you think about it, thats all you need to do. Just, DO. Do like your life depends on it.

I hear ya. Most of my ideas just serve to humor myself. I don't really have the materials or motivation to make them happen. Often I'll see something in my head and even if I try to replicate it I'll be so disappointed at the material result of it that these days I very rarely try.

Maybe being a lazy git, is art in itself?

I have this happen to me too. I bought a sketch pad about a month ago because I felt inspired to draw, but I haven't touched a page of it because I'm too lazy and preoccupied with sleeping, video game playing, and browsing my PC when I'm not working. And I have so many great ideas and storylines for characters I would like to draw :/

  • I do the same thing. Jesus, so many great concepts! But all of the interest is lost in a matter of hours, and I never return to them. This is very normal, I think.

I cannot recall exactly who it was, but for sure an artist, couldn't produce anything at a certain time in his life, so for weeks he would just go to his studio every morning and stay there, "working". Sharpening pencils.

I think that's the same with most people, including myself, but once you get down to working on it, you sometimes are able to make the ideas come to life.

Also, I'm not an artist, but I sometimes have some big drawing ideas that I don't try out because I decide that it would be too much work. So, yeah, I'd say it's normal.

    Sounds normal to me.
I may have a lot of ideas, but with no inspiration, no "connecting though" I guess I could say, I just don't feel the need to put them to use unless I am directing them with the inspiration.
