Is it normal that i hate people who take the job assigned to them too seriously

Firstly, Im not sure of the title.But here goes the situation;

3 of us joined our company at the same time (which makes us batch mates).

1 of us is now in a different shift.So its just me and another guy here for our shift.Among 15 of us,we re the the 2nd batch of senior for this shift.

Then,one day,since no supervisors are available,they asked him to monitor the floor.The next,I was assigned to the same task.What i did was,make sure everythings ok,answer questions and schedule breaks so that it doesnt clash with our production.

What he does is,when our colleagues go for breaks,he ll wait for them and if they re late even for a minute,he WILL ACTUALLY CALL THEM TO ASK WHERE ARE YOU?.Then,he will mention the workload quantity and say 'reduce it to zero'.And although we have another senior available,he will assume the role and he will not even take suggestions from others when an colleague asks him of a question.He s been doing this for sometime and gets pretty offended when anyone joking insults him or anything..Please vote

    I hate when people do this!!! You are totally right. Once I had this manager and my bf came to visit me at work and I was working and I gave him a hug when he got there (there were zero customers) and she made me leave work telling me I wasn't allowed to do that. I was like WTF? They never told me I wasn't allowed to do that but tell me don't send me home! But that's nothing. A student at my college got appointed teacher cause my teacher got sick and oh man this guy took it way too seriously. If someone showed up late for a test he made them go get permission from the science dept. to take it. He wouldn't curve the grades with out approval from the damn science dept. These are terrible examples but I totally get it and I passionately dislike people who take themselves and the task appointed to them way too seriously. The guy you mentioned sounds like a monster. I'm being random cause it's like 6am lol sry

    Bean counters should get a life. They really do have a lack of confidence in them selves and do not have a clue what they are doing. I suppose this is why they need to be a jerk.

    Thats weird. It doesn't seem normal. Its one thing to take your job seriously, but what you're saying is on a whole different level. Like that one person who calls if someone is a minute late... thats just ridiculous.

    Taking your job seriously is what leads to promotions and raises. Yeah it's nice and easy to be everyone's friend, but to step up and make sure everyone is in check sometimes you have to be strict. It's not easy but I guarantee the manager sees their effort and dedication as a good thing. The manager is likely testing you two to see who would make the better candidate for supervisor.
