Is it normal that i hate it when people are smarter than me?

It's stupid and childish, but I hate it when people are smarter than me. I know it's futile to behave like this, due to the fact that you can never be an expert in everything, but I've always been like this. I feel like the only way I can feel good about myself and be worth other people's time is to know everything. I hate it when people are capable of coming up with novel insights that I didn't consider, or they point out some flaw in my thinking because it makes me feel like all the time I spend devouring books and senselessly learning things is wasted.

In your case its not the knowledge you lack but wisdom.

If one is an expert at trivia, one is only an expert at the trivial.
Pick one thing and proceed to learn all there is to know about THAT subject, and let others contribute their knowledge of their subjects.

    Maybe it is?

Are you trying to obtain knowledge for the sake of anything other than your own self-esteem?
