Is it normal that i get obsessive of meeting my internet friend irl?

I have a friend 9 months younger than me that I converse with online. For the entirety of the 3 years and 9 months that we've been talking, I have gotten the urge to meet him in real life, to the point of it almost happening. The only reason we haven't is because we never came up with a date of when we would meet up. I've actually gotten crazy with it to the point of getting a site webpage-visitor addon and trying to locate where he lives based on where his IP address dot is on the world map image that came with the visitor addon. I think I've actually gotten pretty close to figuring it out, even though he doesn't want me knowing where he lives.

Is this normal?

    He doesn't want you to know where he lives. Doesn't that indicate he wants to maintain his privacy?

    There's nothing wrong with wanting to meet up with an online pen-pal. Just make sure you do it safely; meet in a busy public place and tell at least one reliable friend or family member where you're going and why.

      I actually haven't thought about that. I just get so caught up in meeting him IRL that I show disregard for his privacy.

    Then maybe this person wants to hide something from you if he doesnt want you to see him, I only say this from experience....
