Is it normal that i find scars interesting, not ugly?

Apparently if you see that someone has a scar, it's inappropriate to point it out in case you reopen an old memory which they would rather forget.

I refuse to tread on eggshells when it comes to talking about scars. I'm not saying I actively seek out people on the street who are covered in scars, it's just, if I'm already talking to someone and I happen to spot that they have a scar, my brain says "that's a chapter of their life which they wear on their skin, and I want to know more about it".

Anyone can take their clothes off, but it's only when you bear your soul to someone and let them in on your past that you can truly say they've seen you naked.

According to someone on social media, this train of thought means I'm an "insidious, autistic, delusional serial killer" and a "downright malicious asshole". As it happens, I have a completely clean criminal history, so I laughed it off as trolling.

I'm all about body positivity and owning my flaws. If you're willing to bleed a little, I'll bleed with you (metaphorically speaking, of course!). Hell, I've got scars myself and I'm proud of them. Feel free to ask away.

Is it normal though that I find scars fascinating, and if someone tells me I'm insensitive for pointing them out I just think, "Grow a backbone and deal with it, you pathetic little snowflake!"?

    • My scars are surgical and saved my life. In January 2015, I was diagnosed with renal failure. I spent a year and 11 months on dialysis. I had a neckline put into my chest, and fed through up into my neck and back down straight into my heart. I also had an artery surgically grafted to a vein in my left forearm (known as a fistula) which also eventually got used for dialysis purposes.

Then, on the 16th of November 2016, my brother donated his kidney to me as a belated birthday gift. The surgeons cut a large diagonal hole in my lower abdomen, rearranged my intestines, and grafted a healthy kidney to my renal system from the front.

The resulting scars of both proceedures are huge, but I display them proudly because they remind me of how I overcame my ill-health, and of the generosity of my brother.

Got a scar by my left eyebrow that goes down like 2 inches, scar on my lip, crooked nose, scar from back surgery, scar from leg surgery, scars on my left knuckle, bone that sticks out of my right hand, and a scar on my left arm from where I use to shoot heroin. You take one look at me and know ive lived a rough life lol

Humor is the best way to play off a scar. Oh how did I get a large scar on my torso? I fought a bear and won that's why.

It was totally not because my PS4 fell 7 feet (dont ask) and cut into my gut with enough impact to scar.

You fought a bear, it ate you, and you crawled from its anus scarred but victorious.
