Just to clarify, I'm a girl and a virgin, and I've never had sex OR dry-humped a guy. (or girl.) But whenever I masturbate, I think of dry humping some dude, rather than having full-on naked sex.     It's definitely a turn on, like the start of foreplay... but it's best when it leads to actual sex.

    If a woman grinded on me, rubbed my junk, teased me and then left me hanging... I would not be happy.

    Sex is great and there are poses that can stimulate your clit better.
    You said it yourself - friction. But having clothes rub up and down a bit is nowhere near as good as the real deal.
