I hate that stereotype. What's worse is people who don't have mental health problems and want to take Xanex or Klonopin to get high. Assholes!

If youve been misdiagnosed, not thoroughly tested or you're on the wrong medication for your disorder, yes, it can make you worse. This probably happens more often than the industry is willing to admit.

It doesn't work like that. The right medication with the right treatment is the best solution. Sometimes it might take a while to find out what works best for the individual.

i agree with you in the fact that if they diagnose the illness correct and prescribe the proper drug then it will help you alot more than hurt you but lets be honest here how many times do they accually diagnose it correct or prescribe the right medicine, not very often

What makes you think that doesn't happen very often?

What makes you think you know anything about it? Do you take meds? Have you been diagnosed at all? Do you understand what REALLY causes mental illness? No. You listen to useless medical research rather than what many of us so-called "sufferers" are saying. Careful how you reply.

If you're a so-called sufferer who are you to criticize someone else's disorder? She has been diagnosed, and you of all people have no right to call anyone else f'd up...by definition, you are. personally i imagine she knows the real cause seeing as she HAS been diagnosed. Do YOU? And what on earth do you mean? The research the medical field is based on? You're not great at science huh?

Um. I have been diagnosed, and I take several medications. I have an appointment with my psychiatrist today, actually. I'm really not sure why you assumed I've never taken psychiatric medication or been diagnosed with mental illness or psychiatric disorders.

Well, perhaps you have. But you are definitely wrong in what you believe the causes are, seeing that you think medications and pyschiatry work. They only numb and blind you to the real causes. Sadly, you will probably never know.

  • You have to tell your doctor if they're not working for you

She's the one that's a waste of life if she has to call people a waste of life.

I'm a therapist, and always prefer talk therapy, but there are serious cases, such as severe trauma, that need medication at least for a while, to get them stabilized so you can begin to reach them.

it can happen...the question is functioning..if you can function in all areas of your life your good....but if you cant function...you need help...first you should try counseling...thats all alot of people need...but if that dont work...you start on a low dose

Sometimes it makes sense to try medication early, though, especially if a patient is in danger. It depends on what the patient is comfortable with.

Certain medication can make some people worse and some people better. It's a gamble, but for people crippled by mental illness, it's often worth the risk.
