Is it normal that i feel no empathy for people who commit suicide?

It seems like an act of selfishness. Something a coward would do.There's so many people who want to live but are terminally ill, and there's other who kill themselves for something as petty as not being able to find a partner... I think it's disgusting. The only situation that I can understand and accept it, is if someone has a disease and the pain is unbearable or they are living in a vegetative state, completely disabled or severely handicapped. Or someone who's willing to do the ultimate act of altruism and sacrifices themselves to donate their organs to people in need.

When I hear of healthy, rich, privileged people committing suicide I get really angry and i feel like bringing them back to life and beat some sense into them.

Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

  • I've known a few people to do it. It seems to be common here. It causes a lot of problems for who they leave behind.

While I never encourage suicide, I don't think it's my place to say whether it is a selfish move or not seeing that I have never been in that position. Some people suffer a lot of misery, and I feel it's wrong to judge them if you haven't been in their shoes.

Some people have no choice. Some just don't want to live to a point where they'd be helpless. Some hate life with a passion (I don't blame them). Whatever the reason, it's no one's business but their own and it's not 'cowardly'.

It's completely up to them. The real selfish ones are the ones that'd keep these people from taking away their own lives.

    I'm Pro-Right to killing yourself.

It kinda benefits society when you think about it. The weak kill themselves and the tough and resilient stay alive to build a better society of strong, responsible people. I'm also pro-right about people killing themselves because they make natural selection easier. It's like the trash taking itself out.

I felt like this when a family member committed suicide even though I felt that it was just as selfish to be feeling the way I did. It challenged everything I thought I knew.

Someone should compile all the suicide notes together in a book and publish it. Shed some insight. See if there's some common themes that run throughout.

I agree with you completely. However, I also believe everybody over a certain age has the right to end their lives. Teens and such, possibly through say 25; no way. They do not have very good judgement and certainly do have enough life experience to make a rational decision. Emotion should not be the driving factor in suicide.

Some people have real problems. Yes rich people committing suicide cause their parents won't buy them the Xbox1 is disgusting but poor kids who are molested and abused their whole lives, that would be understandable. People who are mentally ill is acceptable but really? Rich people who have their lives planned out for them? Stop being selfish, someone WISHES they were you.

You're dumb. Suicide is when something makes you so depressed you feel like the only way you won't have to suffer anymore is killing yourself.
And being that depressed is the worst thing ever. Seriously.

I can understand why people do it, but another part of me doesn't understand. Some people are run down with feelings of constant misery, depression, hopelessness, etc on a daily basis, which can last a lifetime. Suicide may be the only answer to rid themself from feeling all the pain.

On the other hand, I think even if you only have a few great moments in your life, it makes it all worth it to bear through the pain. I also believe everyone was put on the earth for a reason and we're supposed to live until we simply can't anymore, which means suicide is not an option. So, we just gotta do the best we can in the life we live in.

What's more depressing is there are people in this world that have to fight for their lives to stay alive that don't make it, while others that have the ability to live want to commit suicide. This is your life. After this you don't get another one. So my question for you is why would you want to end it just like that without knowing what the future holds? There's always the possibility things can get better in the future, but if you end it now you will never know.

Yes it's normal to not feel empathy or sad for them. They already feel sorry/bad enough for themselves

Usually, I don't judge these people because, I don't feel that it is my place to do so. However, I do get annoyed when people (usually young ones) kill themselves over something stupid like, your crush not wanting to go out with you (in this scenario, they tend towards trying to kill whomever rejected them) - a cowards move or, because their parents have punished them or told them to do their chores. I remember awhile back, there was an unmoderated post on here where this teen wanted to kill themselves, I kid you not, because there parents told them to take out the trash. I let her have it in my comment. I was livid.

I do believe that people should legally have the right to kill themselves if they want to. I don't think that children and teenagers should be killing themselves. Usually, young suicides are the result of bullying. If people want the numbers to go down, there needs to be a complete reform on how bullying is looked at and treated.

I don't like to judge. Most people who do it are mentally ill and don't necessarily see things as they should. Not that it makes it better but I do feel sorry for someone who thinks death is better than life.
