Is it normal that i eat constantly?

I used to have three to four meals per day but now I just keep eating throughout the day. I am constantly hungry and feel like munching on something - nuts, cheese, popcorn. I have a huge belly, which is really weird to look at since I used to be very skinny and I have never been really fat(I have been avoiding sugar almost completely for most of my life).

If I were a woman I would think that I am pregnant.

Big belly? Sounds like *metabolic syndrome*. Hate to break it to you but you have to go cold turkey here. No, don't eat more. Its a pain to manage, but its really effective. You see, carbs are a biatch with whatever the f*ck is all wrong internally with your hormones(endocrinology). Gotta eat regularly balanced meals. Schedule them, measure them, eat and stop there (softball size amounts - clean real foods - no processed junk! If its manmade? Get rid of it). Don't touch food till the next prescribed meal. Yeah, you do need to 'starve' a bit between meals. This will correct the psycho appetite hormones (insulin and ghrelin production drops). This is doable. Its exactly what I have advised to people. I've been picking up clients over time since I helped friends actually drop weight. :-) They don't have to do any crazy workouts either. Diet is 80% of the game. You can lose wt. doing as little exercise as lazy stroll walking daily just for the circulation boost. I still suggest the usual hour of daily exericse to keep your metabolically active muscle tissue alive and well. Hello? Astronauts? Check them out. They do 2 hrs daily of exercise. If they didn't do that? They would wither away. Well, obese people wither away beneath their fat tissue due to sedentary living. The human body is meant to be ACTIVE. Back to diet...If you eat processed foods, they are manufactured with high amt's of refined SUGAR. It spikes your feel good hormones (dopamine = addictive) + insulin (this puts the glucose into your cells --> if you don't use it? It stores as fat) . Your blood sugar spikes high then plummets, making you think you're hungry quickly (you are, but you aren't - its just an irritating hormone problem from the sugar you ate - like 'phantom hunger' wait it out, it goes away). That all makes you FAT.

The blood sugar spike/drops? Its mostly irritating. It will make you THINK you're starving. You have do a short bit of fasting to normalize your hormones. You will think you're dying of hunger for a few hours (or days). Once that sugar JUNK clears? Your body can probably go all day long without any food consumption whatsoever. Your body will start to utilize its own fuel storage system. You will be astonished at that point. Like, omg, I don't have to eat! Free at last. I've experienced this. I know that eating sugar = crazy appetite. Eating clean = no appetite. I just eat as scheduled and if I feel like it, I can skip. I don't but I could. Its wonderful. I don't skip any prescribed meals because hello? The body needs not so much calories, but regular intake of electrolytes, minerals, an array of vitamins, essential fats, and protein sources. You don't need a ton of carbs. Basically, you mimic a diet/lifestyle that's similar to nature in the modern world. The paleo diet is a good guideline.

I do this bec' I like the freedom from a blood sugar roller coaster, if you're wondering why I'm such an advocate.

IMO, you really ought to get a physical check up. Blood tests would do you wonders. If you have anything like Cushing's or pre-diabetes, that could be the culprit. After my experience seeing these same endocrine disorders in horses (+ correcting their symptoms much as the same process as with humans -- go low carb), I'm a convert. Sugar is a baddie to be avoided. Its all manageable + the big belly is entirely reversible. In fact, obesity itself is a symptom of these endocrine issues (insulin stores that excess glucose first in your liver/muscle tissue then as fat). Biggest thing? Got to correct the diet! Learned all of this in my first 2 yrs of college. Figured out that ummmm, the Freshman 15 is REAL bec' students oink down JUNK. So, I made a point to NOT do this. I've seen good results in a handful of people I know that range from age 14 - 52.

For your own fun, watch lectures by Dr. Robert Lustig.

The biggest pest is to start. Just TRY it. Give it a mere week. You'll see that you feel good. Do it for that reason alone. :-)

      That's very informative, thank you!

I should probably mention that I cook around 80% of my meals and I do not like sweets(all of my sugar intake comes from either coffee or alcoholic beverages). I do eat lots of carbs though, generally rice or pasta at least once per day with lots of veggies, salads, nuts and cheese. Meat and fish less often, around 2-4 times a week. I think my diet is balanced enough tbh, the problem is how often I eat, not how much. There was a time when I could go entire days without eating anything at all, now I start craving things after two hours at most.

Food is often used when one is lonely, to fill the void. But it is a vicious circle, because the more one eats, the more obese one gets, becoming less and less attractive to prospective partners.
This is especially true in the US as more and more people self diagnose themselves into social anxiety and can afford to lock themselves away behind their computers.
