Is it normal that i don't understand why so many n.americans are against....

...Obamas plans for a Reform of the United States Health Service? To make it a bit more like the German or the English health service.. both of which (though have their own individual flaws) IMO work a hell of alot better for the masses than the current system in place in the USA. Am I missing something here?

ha! I kept glancing at the title thinking the "N" stood for "Native." I've been trying to figure out why only Native Americans would dislike Obama's proposal.

How exactly is providing everyone with healthcare making people have to work harder? People with better jobs usually get insurance through their job. For everyone else, there's universal healthcare.

Look for example at someone in my situation. College student, going to be artist/tattooist, plan on working hard to get where I want to go.... But my job probably won't land me insurance, and I have too many health problems to afford my medical treatment even with a good job. There are plenty of people in similar situations all over the place; single parents, minimum wage workers, etc... Is doing something for the good of the whole and showing mercy to your fellow man such a bad thing? If we can't stand together who do we stand with?

There was a piece in the newspaper earlier today which touched on this very subject. Although it's an English newspaper, it was talking about America, Obama, and left versus right-wing politics. I'm not going to paraphrase but if anyone wants to read the analysis for themselves, it's at:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/8655106/Im-starting-to-think-that-the-Left-might-actually-be-right.html

Remember - they're not my words and thoughts. I haven't stated any viewpoint on this.

It'S funny how this particular American politcal scandal makes me happy to be Canadian.

Ps; For those who hate any form of ''socialism''....don't come and cry when more than the half of your population will be living in poverty because they suffer from type 2 diabetes and cancers.

I think most people don't bother to do the research themselves but rely on the media to tell them what to think. The right wing press is very good at getting their message out there and their message generally is anything that Obama wants to pass is bad for the country whether its universal health care or raising taxes on the rich.

Its because half want healthcare but dont make enough to afford it and the other half are just bums milking the system. Many who are opposed to it dont mind helping the first half get it but cant seem to overlook the other half living off their tax dollars.

Fyi, the NHS in the UK, a tax-funded service, works very well and almost everybody I know is glad that we have it.

Not everyone can get a job to pay for their healthcare, no matter how hard they try or want to have a job. That doesn't mean that we should force them into debt or let them die. That would be the most messed up logic that I have ever heard, to withold healthcare from the people most likely to need it. However, that seems to be the system that this is the United States currently works by. The ignorance of people who can't understand this obvious unfairness is baffling to me.

i completley agree with you on this, though dont deny that our NHS is without flaws!! The "recent" dental "scandals" are proof this is not the case, with the NHS leading to many practises going private due to it. I asked the question btw.

I don't have much but I'm all about helping others. Too bad so many people aren't the same.

I never understood why having a full time job has to be the qualifier for health care.

It's because those of us that already have a hard time living on what should be a decent wage will have it even harder, while those that qualify for these programs will have to do nothing to contribute to society in any way and in some cases will have a better quality of life than those like myself.

I'm with you on this one.
I dont know about everybody who wants this Obama crap, but the ones I do know are unemployed, want to stay unemployed. I get the feeling that they think our government owes it to them. The only people I think should have everything the government has to offer are our men and women who have fought for our country. I'm sick of these people who have this sense of entitlement. Like you said, work hard. Be a productive person in this society.

I need to stop now because this subject gets me very $$&&@@.

    • I'm from the UK. My mother left school early due to personal circumstances and my dad left when I was two. Without any qualifications my mother couldn't earn enough in a job to pay for childcare so we shared one tin of beans between three of us for lunch and one tin of soup for tea. When we were old enough to stay at home on our own, my mother went out to get qualifications and a job. I went to college and university and studied biology. I worked as a microbiologist and saved my money for years so that I could travel the world. My sister is head of year at school. We were very poor. Living off state benefit but we NEVER wanted to stay like that. Living like that is REALLY hard and not a life choice for some. We had the NHS and it was a godsend. Without it I would have haemorrhaged to death and my sister would have died from an asthma attack. But we are decent hard working people who came from a very poor background. You surely can't think it's fair to deny all poor people health care, and you surely can't think that they all want to live like that. Being poor is not a choice.
