Is it normal that i don't get patriotism?

I just don't get it. I was born around these people, ergo, I should care more about them? I can understand caring about one's community and giving back to them, but the idea that my country is somehow superior to everyone else' just because I was born or grew up in it doesn't make any sense to me. I once had a history teacher tell me he'd rather spend his entire life paralyzed in America, than live able-bodied in any other country of the world. I don't understand that mentality.

You're normal, I don't get it either, it's just an accident of birth.

It's like being proud of being white - so what?

I'm glad I'm not the only one! People also have a baffling sense of reflected glory. "We" came up with this. "Our country" did this.
No, somebody else did who happened to be born in a similar area to you.
    I don't get it.

It is not only that you were born around those people.
You are actually ONE OF THEM.
