Is it normal that i don't care about people i don't know?

I honestly don't care what happens to anyone, as long as I don't know them personally. The one exception is if someone I do know is affected by something that happens to someone I don't know, in which case I do care slightly. I really wouldn't care if an entire country's worth of people was wiped off the face of the Earth tomorrow, as long as no one I personally know was affected.

However, I find it far easier to empathize with people I do know.

That's called being a human being. It's easy to be removed until it hits home.
