Is it normal that i did this as a child?

When I was a child I'd help my mom out the most in public, because I wanted people to think I was so cute and helpful. For example, washing the car windows when we'd stop for gas, or carrying the bags when grocery shopping and nonchalantly looking around like I was curious about my surroundings; really the reactions of grown ups pleased me.
