Is it normal that i'd rather spend time with a friend i rarely see

During the summer, I avoided social interaction with friends I saw everyday at highschool, yet I really wanted to see a friend that I see once a year at most.
That friend is someone I've known all my life and we're very close but I could only ever see her a few times a year because we lived so far away from each other.
Is it normal that I'd rather talk to her, someone I saw few times a year, than meet up with friends I saw everyday at school?
