Iin, that i'd like to axe my name and go by my social security number?

For a number of reasons, I don't like my name. In fact, I don't like to hear my name spoken; negative thoughts come to mind when I so much as THINK of my name.
But a new name would feel strange to me.
The solution? A new public identity which I ALREADY HAVE.
My social security number.
I'd go by the first 3 digits (Other person: "Yo, 512. What's up?" Me: "Not much, Jim. How about you?") My middle name could be the middle two digits, and my surname the last 4.
I'd be a guy without a name, just a number! Sort of like a secret agent or something. Sort of cool even. So, would it be legal to make my SSN into my legal name?

    I'm sure it's legal but not smart. Anyone who knows your social can ruin your life to the point of jail or debt so high it will never stop. I think you just need to stick to a name.

    Well, I can understand wanting to change your name, that's normal. But changing it to your social security number is likely to get you into some trouble, since people will be able to figure it out. And besides, changing your name to a number is pretty much taking your identity. I mean, imagine if people were just numbers. I can't say that this is normal...

    That sounds SOOOOOOO Awesome! at first i was like wouldn't that be a total hassel to renember then write down on 'put your first name here'. probably not legal though. allmost the same as if you tried to name yourself Alotta Fagina or Pussy Galore.

        Pick a different proper name is my advice. Maybe you could choose one which means something in another language or something, so it doesn't seem to strange! But if you really want to be called a number and don't care of the social implications of it, there's no-one to stop you.
