Is it normal that i cook my pancakes mostly on one side?

Before, my pancakes kept breaking apart and losing fluffiness when I'd flip them half way through. I used to avoid making them.

But one day, I gave up. I cooked it almost entirely through, only giving it a 1 minute sear on the other side.

Flipping them is so much easier now, and they don't fall (lose fluffiness). There's no mess on the spatula from raw batter, and none on the stove either.

Also, my pan looks totally clean afterwards, because it's cooked on the side with the oil.

Does anybody else do this?

I do the same thing when I make my morning tea. I only boil the water on one side. I used to flip the water into a second kettle to make sure it was fully boiled. But now I get a really great cup of tea from one sided water boiling.

    • That's genius. I'm gonna try that the next time I make tea.

right and i bet your hopping up and down on one leg like a little boy that has to pee. we know who you really are Gordon. we dont need you to tell us how to make a great pancake. nob of butter melting in the pan with just a light drizzle of boiled tree sap. first you get the pan hot and wet with butter and then with one thrust in goes the creamy batter , thats how you do it, and you leave it in dont move it at all untill its ready to slide out on its own and then you flip her and what you see is all brown. its time for some more oil. but thats ok because you are leaving it in this time for just seconds , and you pull it out totally clean nothing is on your pan,

I don't generally make pancakes, but good for you! Also I don't like to eat pancakes with pancake syrup, I only use 100% pure maple syrup! 😋

Cook the pancakes on medium high. When you see bubbles appear on the uncooked side that's the time to flip 'em. Just cook lightly maybe 30 45 seconds then flip them out.

This from a Canadian and we know pancakes! :) All you need then is butter and maple syrup, the real stuff. The darker the syrup the more expensive but worth it.
