Is it normal that i can't understand people still believe in god?

I simply don't understand why people would still believe in God? Especially people in modern countries. I mean with all the knowledge we have, knowing the whole bible is complete bullshit (For example God didn't create earth or the human race right, and it's obvious theirs no heaven or hell) why would you hang on to that? Why would you believe in a story that's been made up in a time we hadn't have an explanation for a lot of things. Start believing in something real, like science. I don't even know why I write God with a capital G.

It is my honest opinion that religion is a mental illness.

OMG!!! I found someone that has the same beliefe as me! I feel the same way, I don't understand, but I need to be careful, my family still does, except my dad.

I'm so happy I found this page!!!

Now to you people who do believe in god, and other religious stuff, awesome, I'm glad you do, but don't force it on me, or in other words, don't elave cruel comments on me or this page, don't have anything nice to say, THEN DON'T TALK!!!

You have to be able to differentiate between religion and faith. Religion is pushed, faith is not. Religion is skewed and incoherent, faith is not. Religion is a mass-marketed machine, faith is a personal belief in something larger than yourself.

Do I believe Jesus was an actual person? I don't know. He might have been. He might have worked miracles or gave a great speech on the Mount. There's even a possibility that he was indeed what he claimed to be.

Does that mean I'm going to rip on someone for believing inhim? Or Allah? Or Krishna, Zeus, Osiris, Mithra, Manawydan, Bel, Lucifer or anyone else? No, because that's their choice. Personally, I don't know what I am. I think were all a part of something bigger. Could be God, or the universe, or the Great Magnet, I don't know.

However, asking a question like this is only inflammatory and unnecessary. Why do you care what people believe in? Every religion, every cult and following has people that push their beliefs o others. Including you, my friend. I don't give a tin shut what you do or donor believe in, but it is upsetting to have you ask a question like this.

In summation...nice troll attempt, but I've seen better.

I'm an atheist and i can tell you why people beleive in god. They're brainwashed. The dedicate 1 day to being lied to for their entire life. And a lot of them might be punished for not paying attention to the pastor, rabbi, whatever.

Wow, the religious commenters on here have shown an surprising lack of good will to men, wouldn't you say? I'm not gonna bash anyone elses belief, think what you want and all that, but why, why do you christians feel like you have the right to shove your beliefs down our throats?

If any of you truly followed Jesus's teachings, you wouldn't have responded to a simple query with such hostility. Maybe your faith isn't as unshakable as you'd like to think, hence the violent opposition? The teachings of Christianity have become so varied and so corrupt, and supposedly you must believe exactly the right thing to get into your heaven of choice... No wonder there's so much bickering.

Im comfortable admitting that i don't know if there is a god, though I think it's very probable that there is a higher power. Why? Consciousness. When matter starts to understand itself, things get interesting. Enter the human being. Ever heard of collective consciousness? Example. They did an experiment where they gave groups of people new crosswords every day. Then one day, a group got a crossword that was a day old, that millions of people already answered. Their scores improved drsmatically. It is my belief (which is open always to new information) that perhaps consciousness begets consciousness, and whatever higher power governing the biological world is just some higher consciousness, a form of being above our ability to comprehend, because the human animal can't understand anything greater than it's own mind. Thus we would not be able to even perceive our creator accurately. It would be like trying to see in the 10th dimension. Impossible, for our universe is only 3 dimensional. Any other dimension higher, translated to ours, would be wretchedly confusing.

Jesus was a cool dude though, a good philosopher. His teachings are good. :)

My views on any sort of higher power are not connected to the Bible and I wish people didn't tie a belief in God to the Bible so quickly. If anything, it is science that gives me a reverence for life--the realities of it are insanely beautiful.
Also, there are books everywhere and you can find anything on the internet. Basing your opinions off of faulty information is the whole reason these debates get so heatedly pointless. I'm not saying my words are any more relevant, but at least I know that I'll never be done learning and am willing to be proven wrong.

Yea it is very clear that using any rational decision making at all there is no god. Religion is a boil on intellectual's asses that just wont go away, and to be honest just get used to it. After all, religion doesn't make people stupid. Stupid people are just (more likely) religious.

Humans have changed their views regaurding the shape of the earth. The voyages of discovery, explained in The World Book Encyclopedia, showed that the world was round, not flat as most people had believed. But the Bible was right all along. More than 2,000 years before these voyages, the Bible said at Isaiah 40:22: "There is One who is dwelling above the CIRCLE of the earth," The Bible does not contradict science, it in fact coinsides with it.

Yes, I believe in God. And honestly what does it matter to anyone else. My faith gets me through many tough days and brings me close to God and my fellow Christians. I don't hurt anyone and look for the good in all. Can I honestly ask what is the harm in having faith in what you say is "complete bullshit"?

I'm an atheist but i believe everyone has a freedom of belief. It's in all democratic constitutions. If you think you should take away that right then you must be a communist! COMMUNIST!!! IT'S GONNA EAT ME!!!

@ Alv1592 I'm not really sure if you're kidding or not... I'm sorry if you're not, I don't want to offend you, but have you ever heard of Darwin? Or even easier; Evolution? You should google it! That are the facts. Then tell me again, where in all that does God have a part.

Also I'm getting a lot of 'Wait till judgement day' and 'the devil laughs at you' comments from people that seem to believe in God. That makes me cringe. Because apart from me not being intimidated by those comments at all, if you are religious and you know the "words of God" or have ever read the bible you would know that God does not judge on beliefs but on goodness. In other words God wouldn't give **** about what I belief, it's about living as a good person. So for an atheist I know more about the bible than you so called God believers. That's just sad.

Also I'm still waiting for decent arguments for why to believe in God with all the knowledge we have.

ok, i'm not bashing you for having different beliefs than me or anything, but you weren't 100% specific. we all came from the first people on earth, but if God didn't create them, how did they get here? And why do u say it's obvious there's no heaven/hell? just curious...

Something I wish of those who believe in religion is not to pose Atheists with threats only fellow believers would find perilous. In turn, there will be fewer mockeries made on the concept of religion, and perhaps the subject can ultimately slow to a light simmer in regards to the heat of passion.

It is normal, but I think they have a reason, there is something odd in the world that I just can't understand. Why is it when I don't want something it happens. I use that trick all the time. When I really want something, I am thinking that I don't want it and then somehow I get it, do you think science could maybe explain why that happens? And what about karma?

I'm not exactly religious but I do believe that a life after death is possible. Why? Because even if we know a lot it's still only a fraction of what goes on around us. I dont believe in "magic" I don't believe in god the way the religious people do but I think that a life after death can be proved scientifically in a couple of hundred years. Atheists and religious people have a too simple outlook at the world.

Oh wow I feel horrible that I didn't see this question until over a year later! I DO have some reading that has given me SO MUCH to think about. I know the chances of you seeing this are low but maybe, just maybe you or others may benefit.

INCOGNITO The Secret Lives of the Brain--David Eagleman
Spontaneous Evolution--Bruce H. Lipton and Steve Bhaerman
Power Up Your Brain: The Neuroscience of Enlightenment--David Perlmutter and Alberto Villoldo
You Are God Get Over It!--Story Waters
      The Celestine Prophecy--James Redfield

Also some fun websites that I've learned a lot from: AboveTopSecret.com
Thefitshack.com--was more health oriented. The information came to me at a time when I really needed it, but sadly I'd no longer recommend it because she turned her pure advice into a business.

Another great source of information/inspiration is the whole 'Through The Wormhole' with Morgan Freeman series. It was aired on the Science channel and is an EXCELLENT series. You can watch them all free here: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/through-the-wormhole/

Communist? Really? I'm not saying I don't want people to have religion I'm fine with it as long as they keep it to themselves and don't start wars because of it. I'm only saying I don't understand why anyone would still believe in it.

  • Man, all you people do not know what is waiting for you. It makes me cringe, but the day will come and you'll all see that there is a God and he did create the earth and everything, and you'll have a big price to pay.
