Is it normal that i can only masturbate when i'm asleep?

So, I'm 18 and a girl. I really want to learn to masturbate and I've tried some stuff but nothing really works. When I masturbate I can get turned on and it feels great but I never orgasm. I still live at home (still in high school) so I can't get any toys or anything.

The only way Ive found that gets even close to orgasm is when I imagine having sex with someone in a dream. I always wake up just before climax though :( Is it normal that I can't reach anywhere close to orgasm unless I'm dreaming?
