I was once imprisoned by the addictive power of nicotine. But I broke free. Quitting was horrible. I don't like to even think about it.

If you need it, you are addicted. I felt and was healthy for the more than 40 years I smoked, but nicotine is VERY sneaky, it's eating away at your lungs and your circulation and your kidneys and your brain ......... I was diagnosed with emphysema some years AFTER I stopped smoking and believe me, it's not fun.

Don't fool yourself it can't happen to you: more than 50% of smokers will die of a smoking related disease.

Nicotine gum would be better for you than smoking, although it's not completely safe at least it's not going into your lungs and don't smoke anything else or you'll get back onto cigarettes.

Nicotine is not addictive for some. I've known a number of people who can smoke at will, then not touch a cigarette for months without any withdrawal at all.
I would give up a small (or large) fortune to be that way, but alas, I am an addict.

Then you're psychologically addicted. I was this way for years. I could even quit for a couple of months in between and not feel shitty. Now I'm a regular smoker, not heavily addicted but still, I am. What you describe is not uncommon at first, don't kid yourself.
