Is it normal that i am 24y and i do not know what i want to do with the rest of

I am 24 years old, I am very artistic, I love life and just being a good person. I get very confused though when it comes to a career path, I work as a part time firefighter/EMT but I would like to go to school to become an investigator of some sort. I am so lost as to where I should begin. I am sure college is expensive and very time consuming. Does anyone have some advice for me? Thank you.

There is a doctor I know who started and finished medical school in his thirties; and residency at 40. He has since retired as the leading cardiologist in his region.

He shared a story with me.

"there was a new building at the school I was attending; the administration wanted to put in sidewalks but didn't know where to put them. One person suggested, wait to put the sidewalks in and see where people naturally walk ... and that is where the sidewalks go. Paths would develop in the grass, and after a year thats where they paved."

    The moral?

We have a natural path to walk; walk it and allow yourself to naturally develop who you are and then support what is effortless with additional education, research, participation etc.

    Good point by mich:

So much importance is placed on having a successful career, and that success is measured in terms of how much money you make. I know of many people with fine careers and empty hearts. They took the road that they were taught to take and they've found themselves still wanting. You, however, have great career potential being an artist. You must define for yourself what a successful career would look like for you (ignoring entirely others peoples shoulds).

Relax and stop trying to control what will come naturally over time. Sometimes in trying to make things happen, we bulldoze even more obstacles in front of us. And happiness isn't about following the mainstream. Good luck.

Maybe the reason its taking a long time to figure out what career path you want to take is that deep down you dont want a career. During school its drummed into you that you must choose wot career path you want and work towards it. However, if your artistic and imaginative it may be that you get bored easily and need inspiring surroundings and the thought of doing the same thing for the rest of your life is quite daunting.
