Is it normal that i always have to leave one tiny bite of my food uneaten?

I have done this for as long as I can remember. For example, when eating a protein bar, which I do every day, I HAVE to leave one tiny last bite. If I eat the whole thing (even if the difference is miniscule) I am afraid I will throw up. I then feel compelled to 'save' that tiny little piece, and sometimes do so for months. I feel guilty throwing it away. I have dozens of tiny fragments of food still wrapped up in the original wrapper. Eventually, I do throw them away. This even applies to M&Ms...I will leave one tiny shard of the last one...I have even left half of a single Tic Tac! How weird is this, what do you think causes it, and does anyone else do this? Thanks!

No problem. I believe you that your house is clean. You said you wrap it back up so it's not as though you just leave open bits of food.

This sounds like a learned habit to me. Those can start at a very young age. Even if they don't manifest till much later. Perhaps someone made a joke about saving a bit of food to help you stay thin when you were just a child and ever since you've felt the need to do so even though it really doesn't make sense. People don't know how much impact comments have on a child's mind. :)

Ignore the comment that says it's OCD. Only a qualified professional can diagnose that and no qualified professional would diagnose it without properly talking to you and getting a complete history.

Sheep, on the other hand, jump to the trendy conclusion of OCD all the time.

Sounds to me like a quirk. We all have them. If it bothers you, speak to your doctor.

Thanks, Abbeyroad. I do not see this as a harmful habit, I have a clean house (unlike it may have sounded in my post). I'm not sure honestly if it bothers me or not. I just wish I could understand why I do it. I appreciate your feedback. :)

  • Stop doing it, your apartment/house might get invaded by ants and you'll never get rid of them.
