Is it normal that i’m scared of animals becoming bored?

It started with my dog, really. Sometimes I’d picture a scenario where my dog got locked out of my house on accident and would get bored and bored. Not even dying, just being bored and having nothing to do at all. And then it gradually got to a point where I was even uncomfortable around bugs like flies or caterpillars because I just can’t help but be scared of how bored they could be. It freaks me out, and I have no idea why. Is it because they’re an animal and they can’t just entertain themselves as easily as humans can? I couldn’t sleep once because I remembered once when I was a little kid I had a pet ferret that would constantly run around and I got annoyed and just held it in my arms until it tired itself out, and thinking back on it I freaked myself out thinking about how bored he probably was. Is this normal??

Dogs get destructive when they're bored. They make their own fun. That's why enrichment toys are a big thing now.

I imagine most animals are the same.

I think animals require less stimulation

The only animals that absolutely need stimulation for their survival are octopuses. They will literally kill themselves if they dont have something to do, because they understand on some basic level they are trapped and kept alive to be alive. So I think theres some existential dread mixed in there. Idk how octopus brains work so that's my speculation on it.

I do wonder that about indoor cats sometimes. Do they care that they spend almost all of the lives within the same few square feet, doing the same few things all the time?

And fish in a fish tank. You're literally just swimming in circles for your entire life span. Nothing new.

I know animals can get depressed, so I do think it's something to consider. But I also feel like they don't see it in quite the same way we do, past a certain extent. Or at least I hope not or their lives are secretly hell and we all just walk around putting bows on their head and taking pictures of their silent misery, thinking it's cute and funny.

I don’t think a caterpillar has the capacity to become bored, their tiny little brain is concerned with eating and not being eaten until it’s time to spin a cocoon.
