Is it normal that he yanked to see if my hair was real?

I barely even want to talk to my friend anymore (who didn't do anything) because of this. I was hanging out in her room and her guy friend jokingly asked if my 'shit' (like how some people say about their food "this shit is good" which is kind of bleh to say) was even real, then pulled my ponytail, hard. After he realized it was real and let go I was just sitting there like what the ducking fuck and my friend was looking at me with wide eyes. No apology. She didn't say anything to him. I left. He probably thinks he did nothing wrong checking to see if the dark girl's hair was fake or not. I'm so sad about this. Is it normal for people to assume that if a black girl has long hair it's fake? A lot of us have stopped getting the chemicals (relaxers/"perms" which some people call it since it straightens permanently, although there are a special few who could grow their hair even with those harsh chemicals with the right care) that broke our hair off in the first place.

His behavior was inappropriate and you have a right to feel sad about it. I remember back when I used to have my hair purple idiots would ask if my hair was fake and yank at my ponytail. It was so annoying.

It doesn't even matter if your hair was fake or not, he had no right to try and humiliate you. Certainly don't talk to him, but talk to your friend at least and find out a) how she feels about the situation and b) if she is still talking to that guy. If she is, yeah I wouldn't want to hang around with such a person.

    • I already deleted her on fb and twitter, and when my family and I move (dad got a new job) she sure as hell won't know where. They probably had sex (they have before) after I left so I doubt she'd stick up for me.

I'm not black, but going on the discourse I see online sometimes this does seem common. I mean Solange Knowles recently released a song called "Don't Touch my Hair", which I guess speaks to this phenomenon.

It's entitlement and disrespectful, not to mention de-humansing. You're not being unreasonable for being sad or angry about it.

Completely inappropriate, rude, ignorant, racist and most likely a form of assault. I personally hope he sustains some sort of ingury to his groin, and by groin I mean balls.

Also, why is it assumed to be "racist"? His ethnicity was never stated.

And by ingury, you mean injury.

And by some sort, you mean kick him in the balls.
