Is it normal that certain spellings baffle me.

I look at the way a word it's spelt and it just seem really weird and bothers me. Not even words with weird spellings, words like water and assist (they were really bothering me today).

Anything beginning with a Z because I always thing the the letter Z should be the other way around, but then if I wrote it the other way around it bothers me even more.

Plus anything beginning (beginning, that's another one that bugs me) with an X and words with a Q but no U (like Qatar).

But this doesn't happen all the time either, it's not bugging me right now or I wouldn't be typing them.

Also words with and E before an I...even if there's a C.

This one is probably a bit more common: when people misspell words, even difficult ones, and I'm bothered even more if I'm the one who's made the error.

I probably seem like a crackpot to you guys...

Just to put this here...how about that Naive spells Evian backwards! Yes, the bottled water.

Haha if it's any consolation it took me years to make my peace with the word occasion. It should be occassion damnit. *glare*

I used to be OCD with correcting typos and spelling but then I saw others do the same and it made me realize how impractical and needless it was. So I forced myself to not be bothered anymore.

No it shouldn't. If occasion had two s's it'd be pronounced oh-kash-uhn or oh-kass-ee-uhn. Because it's pronounced oh-kay-zhun it needs a single s, because a double-s can't make the "zh" sound. It's called English (:

The only exception I can think of is "fission" as in nuclear fission, so that always bothered me, and rightly so. Fission should rhyme with mission, not vision, and for many people it does, but most pronounce it "fizhun". Fissure is "fisher" not "fizher"!
