Is it normal that apartment living did this to me?
Ever since moving out of my apartment I've experienced PTSD towards loud noises, especially if they sound like bass or heavy footsteps. Even car doors closing in store parking lots make me squirm. My heartbeat quickens. I start to sweat and both my esophagus and hands tremor. A sense of dread overcomes me even though logically I know I am safe. I try to resist, but my mind replays whatever sound I've heard until it's like tribal drums playing a tune of execution. It's made me never want to rent again, and this home in a quiet neighborhood is like an oasis in the desert. I also hate inconsiderate loud music players even more.
