Is it normal that a guy just stops talking to you when he wants to break up?

I've been seeing this guy for sometime, but then he just didn't appear in one week, I called him, he answered very nicely, but he was at work, and he said 'I will call you later', but he didn't. He hadn't said called or anything in this week, is he that he wants to break up with me?

    I don't know if it's normal but I've done it before just to avoid the pain on both sides. Done it to make myself look like a real ass so she would hate me more than hurt me if she still thought I had decent manners. Done it so those terrible words wouldn't come out of my mouth even if they were true "I don't love you".
