Is it normal some lgbt people dislike their would-be allies?

Hi,
after the celebrations of marriage equality in the US, I saw one or two people arguing on Facebook about whether equality was good or not for LGBT people. So I read into it, and on my way I noticed some writers seem to dislike straight people - as in straight people who seem to have the best of intentions. For instance, there are sometimes these snarky little comments that seem to paint moderate or progressive allies as oafish or insensitive or self-centred.

Please don't bite my head off - I just want to check my observation against other peoples' ideas.

Thanks in advance for your help everyone.

This is probably a bad comparison, but this kind of reminds me of some of the people my sister dealt with in the deaf community. They seemed to dislike the "Hearing People" because of how they were hurt by them in the past. They made snarky little comments about how my sis is dating a "Hearing Person" and made it seem like it was bad thing and that her boyfriend was bad for dating her. I'm guessing that maybe it's the same thing in the LGBT community. They were hurt by straight people in the past and can't seem to see any good in them because of it?

    • That's a pretty thought provoking point. Thank you.

I haven't noticed anything like that. I'm bi and I have many friends who are allies; they are happy about the ruling and I'm happy too! I'm really not sure what you mean by this post.

    • Well some think that marriage equality is bad for LGBT communities because it's a 'conservative' agenda that's trying to make them assimilate into mainstream society. That's how I came by the passive aggression I talk about, although I've seen it in other radical writings.

Interesting, but I can't say I've seen anything remotely like that. The biggest backlash I've seen is from conservatives who were saying "States rights have been violated by this ruling!"

The funny thing is, they wouldn't care if it were any other topic. But since it's gay marriage, all the sudden states' rights are soooo important. I've never heard so much bitching about the 10th Amendment and states' rights in my life.

LGBT feminist have to have an enemy no matter what or who they are. If it isn't the "right" and have nothing to attack on that side they will attack themselves... Have a good one. bye :)

    • Nobody has the right to discriminate on the basis of sex, gender, or anything else like that. Many feminists are the salt of the earth, of course
