Is it normal ro throw your own birthday party and perform at it?

A friend of mine threw her own birthday party. She took singing lessons as a kid and has a decent singing voice, so she rented a karoke machine, set up a stage in her basement and sang to us most of the evening. She even set up special lighting so she was all lit up while we sat in the dark at tables listening to her.
Somehow it felt inappropriate to me. She can be rather self absorbed at times, but this felt a little over the top. I always thought birthday parties were events that are thrown for you, not for you to throw for yourself.
Anyway, her self absorbed behaviour ended up causing us to grow apart eventually, but I still wonder if is it normal to throw your own birthday party and then even perform at it. It just seemed to be so self serving and screamed attention seeking behaviour. What do you think?

A birthday party where I don't have to entertain the man of the hour? Hell yayah!
She probably is self obsessed but it is normal. It's not like a hen party. Then that would be weird.

I think that many girls think they are the Divas of the world. A very small percentage of them are right!
