I see what you're saying, but it can be rather boorish to automatically judge people based on their regional accent right off the bat before you know anything about them. Additionally I would like to emphasize that there isn't just one generic Yankee accent just like there isn't just one generic Southern accent. I just recently moved back to Texas which is like a whole other country, because it's so large and diverse. I certainly wouldn't compare a person from Houston to someone from Dallas and say they're the same!

Sure, some regional accents are annoying, but try not to be in a rush to judge someone or completely cut them off, because you don't like their Yankee accent. Also I wouldn't want to confuse New York and Boston accents if I were you.
