Is it normal people have so many credit cards?

I always see people with several different credit cards but how does this work? Do they have different banks? I 21 but I never believed in credit so I have one and its a Debit card(Actually I shut that off). How is it that people have like 5-12 credit cards? Dont the banks only give you one? How do people collect so many? For this reason I probably have 0 on the my credit score as well.

They might be shopaholics. Or they might be raising their credit, using it for different things.

i has 2 credit cards incase one gits fucked up or shutoff while im out and about

for example i were down in the swamps for a while last year and booked a flight home paid a rentcar paid food and airport concessions and so on. i got home and a day later my card didnt work. i called em up and they said they sent me a new card and shutoff the ole one causeof a maybe databreach

so i asked what the fuck would i have done if that nonrefundable ticket didnt go thru? no answer

thats fuckin great if i gots a new card sittin in my fuckin mailbox at home but it aint doin me a bita good while im travelin

and id never have a debit card

worst case if theys fraud on yalls account with a creditcard yall can tell a cc company to go to hell and try sendin someone to collect my money

with a debitcard yall just got yalls bank account cleaned out and its upto yall to git the money back after jumpin thru hoops doin homework and waitin months

remember yallre not liable for payin if yall can PROVE fraud on yalls account, with a cc the burden is on the cc company so they can git paid with a debit they already gots yalls money so fuck you

When I had credit cards, I would rotate the debt from one to another. Usually a new card would offer some time with no interest, so I'd move my debt to that card. When the no interest deal expired, I move my debt again to a new no interest card.
When you terminate a card, it shows up negatively on your credit rating, and this would cause the interest free cards to stop coming, so one ends up with a lot of cards.

Most of the credit cards I have, I applied online for after receiving credit card offers in the mail. I have a regular MasterCard credit card, a regular Discover card, A sears one, a Walmart one, and a Target one. I'm only using the Discover one. The rest just sit in my wallet taking up space.

    • Why would you need that many? The more you have the better your chances of getting your identity stolen.

For the purpose of raising my credit I guess.

        • That happens over time, not from having like 8 different credit cards....

8 credit cards is probably a bit much. I'm always getting credit card offers in the mail. I probably have about 4 credit cards not including my check card and I've raised my credit rating to "good". I think having multiple credit accounts(not too many though) and using them all raises your credit quicker as long as you don't miss any payments, exceed your credit limits, and so on. Paying the full balance every month helps too. You can hurt or help your credit rating with credit cards. It's all about how you use them.

True. I know all sorts of people including my mom who have numerous cards, dunno why. I only got one card that gets emptied every thursday.
