Is it normal or should i look for another job

My current job is stable and there are no major problems, but I keep having this nagging feeling that there is something better out there that I should be doing instead.

Maybe people's answer to this question will help me to decide whether to settle for complacency, immaturity, and mediocrity or to grow a pair, get some kahoneys, and start living life before it passes me by ;)

Is it normal ?

What is the harm looking for another job? Just don't jump the cliff too soon until you find your dream job.

I currently work in a lab. It is stable and low stress, but it is monotonous and dead-end, and my co-workers are very immature. I feel like I should be doing something better with my life.

My dream job would be where I work by myself doing something that I am good at that allows me to be creative. It might be writing computer software (which I have already done), or it might be something totally off the wall that I haven't explored yet.

The last Indie rock album I listened to :
"The Darkness : One way ticket to hell"

If that isn't Indie enough, then I popped in a CD about a week ago with some songs from a Finnish hard rock band that I had downloaded from Mikseri(dot)net. I don't remember the name of the band (I would have to look at the MP3s on my hard drive at home) and it wasn't a whole album per se, but I would say they qualified as an Indie band :)

Well I'd say I can dig ur dream job, as a moderately creative fellow myself. I'd also like to have a job to showcase my limited talents.

Only advice I have is to leave on good terms if something turns up that u really fancy, job wisr and goodluck

And hahah well I do enjoy that album, but the darkness wasn't quite what I was expecting

I think the last full albums I listened to was either my favorite album of 2011 "in the mountain, in the cold" by Portland the man or the black keys album, brothers, it was during a long car drive

But what else do u like to listen to? (Beware I'm setting u up for an musical assault of bands I like) =D

Was it "Portugal the man" ? They have had a few hits in the past couple of years. I have the black keys album brothers. I haven't gotten around to listening to it yet :)

Always keep moving forward, never settle. When you get a new job always keep a plan A,B and C. Always keep looking and be on the look out for a new, better job. No matter how much you love your current job keep moving forward! When I first started working it was a simple retail job but I really really loved it. But as soon as I got the job I got a better job and I immediantly left that job to pursue my new one. Then when the new one was over (it had a deadline becuz it was a modeling job) I went back to the old retail job I had. I love the job but I needed more money so I got a second job and then when my 2nd job decided not to hire me for full time (which I was really hoping for) it did not matter becuz I had already had an interview with a new job that I really wanted 100x more then my old job. I now don't work at the 1st or 2nd job but I work at this new job and I love it to death! 100x more better and pays more then my other jobs. I have only been working here for a few weeks and already I have been on another interview for another job and already have a back up plan if this job does not turn out what I expected. Its only been a year and I have had 7 different opportunities. I have pursued all the opportunities I have had and I have learned from them and moved on. Keep moving forward. Its fun and it makes it so you never feel trapped. When you do finally find your dream job, hold it tight and never let it go! But until then, move forward!

I'm young and my jobs are pretty irrelevant lol but my first job I had I absolutely hated. It was boring all the time, I never had anything to do, and the people I worked with were idiots. So I left and started searching for a new job. Landed one at a local grocery store and I love it there. Everyone is friendly, They keep me busy all the time, I like my hours(for now), and my coworkers are like friends. It's not glamorous pay but I won't leave until I get my career rolling.
and even then it will be hard xD I'll be that guy that stops in every week to say hi.

So Id say go for it. find something else that is a better fit for you. Something that will make you happy and leave you feeling fulfilled. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get to where you're going.

Sounds good ! Glad to hear that you had a good experience.

I have had both experiences. I have both made my life better by changing jobs but I have also made it worse.

Best of luck in your job and career ! :)

I am in the same boat and am unhappy with the field I am currently working. To deal with it I have been exploring different careers and looking at job postings on-line. Haven't found what I am looking for yet, but it makes me feel a lot better going to work knowing it is not permanent.

It sounds like a good idea to look. You never know when you might find something better. And maybe looking will give you hope and distract you from worrying about problems at work and instead will give you something to look forward to :)

I can't say, especially from the given pieces of information, whether you should get another job. As dinz said, there should be no harm in looking around for a more interesting job in your spare time.

You could also think about whether the 'something better' could be something outside of work, like volunteering for some cause or excelling at some sport.

Do what you think is best, and that which won't leave you regretting your choices in the future.

Years and years ago, when I was in this same dilemma, I was unhappy and dissatisfied with my job and my life. I had made a list of about ten things, such as leaving my job, staying at my job, staying at my job with the mindset that it is only temporary, going back to school, etc.

I don't know exactly what was on the list, but one of my best options was option #8, which is almost word for word what you said : "Go in and do your job for eight hours, forget about it when you go home, and find happiness and fulfillment in some other activity outside of work." Good advice !

Someone else on the net said exactly the same thing :)
