Is it normal not to want promotion but still feel hurt if not considered?

I've been employed in our lab since 2010 and I've approached my boss about being interested in future openings since 2011. In 2012 and just last year 2 people from the outside were brought in for openings (they had connections with my boss). Now there's an opening but I'm not interested in the position anymore. However, my coworker told me he received a few resumes from potential candidates to look over from our boss. Since my boss knows I've been interested in this position I can't help but feel overlooked once again and beginning to feel bitter since he has not approached me about being promoted.

Yes its normal. It means you don't really want the job and are probably just doing it part time while you're in school. Right? That would explain it.
