Is it normal my partner doesn't love our son

I have had a reasonably good relationship. We have been happily blessed for 7years. After about 5yrs we feel pregnant with our daughter. My partner was and amazing father loved every minute of it. Feed her, nappy changes, baths, playing together everything a father should do and more. But with our son who is only 6months old nothing, he bluntly refuses to hold him to feed him doesn't even like buying him new toys. He has said that he hates him, and(quote) " he wants to a adopt him out so we can be a happy family" he's even gone as low as to say he hopes he gets SIDS (when he was only 2months old). My son is such a wonderful bright little guy. I feel so bad because he is always watching as his father walks past or when he plays with his sister. I hurts me so much to see him do this. I've tried talking to him about it and he says it because of the way his father treated him. I have no idea what to do. Is this normal?

I guess its a bit late to realize your partner has some serious mental problems.
I agree with splashy, you've got to get out to save your son.
No amount of therapy can get someone to love their child.

The difference is his first child was a girl and his second is a boy. He has some unsorted issues with his father, but that doesn't give him the right to act the same as his father, presumably that is what he's doing. You need to confront him about it calmly. Then again, he could be experiencing depression, what they call a mid-life crisis, some mental breakdown and he seriously needs someone to talk to him and set him straight.

I'm concerned about your son's safety. Any parent that would wish death on their own child should be closely watched and avoided. If they can wish death on their child without any remorse, think about what else they would be capable of. For his own safety, consider leaving him in the care of one your relatives. Visit him. Your husband needs counselling.

Almost everyone comes out of childhood thinking they're a bit damaged from their parents. The difference is most of us also come to a point in our lives where we realize we no longer have any excuse to blame our parents for our current character. He hasn't gotten there and if he waits too much longer he never will.

    I just ... UGH!
I used to say that I hate kids, but it seems like I care more for a lot of kids than their own bloody parents?
This shouldn't even be a question ... As a parent you put your kids FIRST and your needs SECOND.

I agree with what others are saying here... your partner is mentally ill and get BOTH of your kids and YOURSELF away from him. So sorry, because this must be so hard for you.

Are you seriously asking if this is normal? What kind of mother are you that you cant see this is fucked up. Give him the chance of counselling incasevits to do with the fact he wasnt loved etc. if it doesnt work get rid of this a-hole. Would you really put a man first, over your son? What he is doing is emotional abuse. Women like this make me sick...

I hate to agree but, your son needs to be in a family that loves him. You need to leave your partner and get your child to safety. You can't trust him to be alone with your kid, nothing is more important than that. Regardless of why he feels hostile, safety has to take precedence.
