Is it normal my menstrual distress is sabotaging my career

Despite being a postgraduate educated woman, I have no career because ever since my teens (now middle-aged), I have been literally laid up and housebound monthly with period pain and flooding. I have been sacked for such absences (even though I would go into work with flu etc and was a good worker) and one employer said "it wouldn't be tolerated" (a woman no less!) as if it was my choice to have this problem! I have spent countless dollars and seen countless professionals over the years who couldn't help me. And medication just made me ill. After years of this monthly draining and the severe stress of it all enforcing a state of poverty, I now have CFS also; but it is not deemed handicapping enough to get financial help.

Have any other women here had any similar experiences?

Do you think you could have some kind of thyroid disorder or fibroids? I've read before that fibroids can be influenced by estrogen (which is really high in soy), and I've also read that hypothyroidism can cause heavy periods.

I found a link to a woman's story about hypothyroid and heavy periods: http://www.project-aware.org/Experience/Stories/carey-hypothyroid.html

This often makes things worse, not better, especially now that environmental toxins are causing more hormonal problems for women (and men incidentally) generally. I also am high risk for repeated miscarriages etc and they are horrible for women. Besides, I most certainly do not want children anyway or, even if I did, I do not have the money and circumstances to raise a child.

Can't say I have. How many gynaecologists have you consulted? Have you thought about getting a hysterectomy?

SeaSky, hysterectomies are definitely not the answer. They cause scarring problems that sometimes create worse problems than the actual issue: menstrual issues are periodic; scarring issues permanent. One practice of therapists I knew had several women in very real and constant pain from them. Plus they also had to deal with the hormonal and spin-off physiological effects of having had an organ whipped out of a synergistic system! The body is not a machine that has dodgy parts that can be fixed in isolation. I wish it were because this is a path I considered. Plus the anaesthetic for some can be dangerous. I have a system which can't tolerate medications.

Once, many years ago, I started eating this cereal that contain Soy. This cereal fucked up with my hormones so much that my blood flow was like a Tsunami. I was changing my pads extremely frequently, I always felt damp. Then, there were the intense cramps. One day, I felt the need to use the loo. Scared, I sat down on the toliet and pushed. Nothing came but there was a strange sensation. I pushed again and instead of urine or feces, these strange softish lumps came out of my front...

Turns out I gave birth to three blood clots. After I had them, my hormones went back to normal and I stopped eating that evil cereal.

No, diet was one of the first things I ever looked at. For a long time, I ate nothing but unprocessed, organic food, exercised properly, used no dodgy personal care products and so forth. And honestly, it all made no difference! But I have always stayed away from GMOs.

        It could be something genetic.

It could be Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
