Is it normal my manager never says bye on the phone with me??

About once a week, I have to call my manager to ask him/tell him something regarding the jobs. This is all normal, etc.

It's really awkward on the phone with him as all he says is "mhm" and "okay" until the end of the call where he asks a question and then waits for me to say good bye and THEN hangs up without saying good bye. This guy is not the nicest nor is he a people person but he certainly doesn't hate me and that I know. I know he does this at work as well and never says bye when on the phones with customers BUT he DOES say bye when he's on the phone with another manager or corporate. Why does he never say goodbye to me? I was never mean to him, I always ask how he is, he NEVER asks how I am. I don't understand this guy. If you're nice to someone, why not at least say bye to that person??

    He's rude to peoples that he can be rude to but knows how to be a kiss ass when he needs to

    It's normal. It's because bosses' mode of communication is minimalistic. Most bosses don't care about sentiments and things like saying "bye."

    It's not exactly rude. long story short; this way they're just going to keep their mind at the task at hand and not get emotionally invested in any way.

    edit: the great bosses are able to be polite and friendly -while- still being professional

    You answered your own question. You said who he says bye to and who he doesn't and then you asked why he doesn't say it to you. Are you another manager or corporate?

    You're not? And he doesn't say bye to you, even though you said he doesn't say bye to people who aren't them?

    I had the same issue with my very first boss. So one day, I decided to do it to him.

    I called him asking him to confirm my shift, he mentioned the time and I said ok and hung up. Funny thing, since that incident he has said bye to me.

    DISCLAIMER - this worked on my boss. Unsure if your boss would react the same.
