Is it normal my kids got taught to hate obama at school?

My kids started saying things like "thanks a lot Obama!", "I hate Obama", "a black guy shouldn't be president" and bitching about Michelle Obama ruining school lunches. I asked where they heard that stuff and they said from teachers and other school staff. I was kind of shocked, honestly. I don't really care, I just found it funny/strange/a little inappropriate perhaps being they are in elementary school.

This is not appropriate in schools!!! I would complain...if you get other parents involved it could make your complaint stronger.
you should care...you should always care what your kids are being taught in school...and if the teachers and staff are brain washing them into having the same opinions.

Once a teacher I had attempted to get us kids to like bill Clinton...shoving her own political beliefs on unknowing vulnerable children. I went home and told my mom...I was resentful of that teacher ever since because as a kid I didnt like being told what my opinion had to be.

Schools and their officials shouldn't be allowed to bring up their political agendas. High school is fine. Because, in high school, I would like to think that most of the students would be able to form their own opinions on matters.

Schools should not try to impose any partisan beliefs on their students. Unless, of course, it is a political science class and you are arguing both sides. If that was not the case, I would make a complaint.

Well children tend to pick up the opinions of their teachers. I've argued with my teachers many times in high school about their opinions. I don't think it's normal for teachers to be neutral, even though they really should.

Teachers should be impartial, and therefore shouldn't try to influence children's political opinions. Those teachers don't sound like good teachers. If I was you I would complain, and like reminiscent suggested get other parents involved. This behaviour is not normal at all from teachers.

Eek...that's not appropriate at all. I'm a teacher at a private school and would never talk about politics or religion for that matter. I have been asked what I thought about Obama and I just told the kids they need to draw their own conclusions (which is difficult for kids these days it seems). Definitely not an appropriate discussion for biology class.

Not so much...I became a teacher to teach. Surprising I know.

I agree with those above that it is not the place of school staff to either criticize nor compliment politicians.
I would cause a hell storm to rain down on that school if my kid was going there. Starting with the local media and a civil suit (all proceeds going to some worthwhile cause) to insure that those responsible for that crap lost their jobs.
Just reading this thread has really upset me.
Where oh where has the American way gone?

Teaching hate to kids is not the way forward.

I've never heard anyone say "thanks a lot Obama!" in a serious way, only as a stupid joke. Nevertheless; the teachers shouldn't be telling the kids that.
