Is it normal my friends piss me off so much and imagine fake friends instead?

My friends are okay, I guess. They just frustrate the hell out of me, because they are always backing out of plans and have the worst excuses in the world for them. And they always are like, "I hope you can understand :) :) :) :/" smiley faces x 1000. I hate it! I feel like if you have already committed to something, it better be a damn good excuse, more than just "I have my period" or "I don't feel like it" or "I'm working in two days so I need to get rested up"

They have absolutely no consideration for my feelings and this happens multiple times. Sometimes I'll fantasize about moving away or going to grad school in a different city and becoming friends with some awesome people that are always down to hang out and never let me down. Is this normal?

Lol the smiley faces cracked me up! I know what you mean it is hella annoying when your "friends" flake and those smiley faces don't help at all. It's like you know they're your friends but why the constant flaking? WHY? What you should do is probably what I try to do but it doesn't work, is leave them and have them come to you. I've let it happen before and it feels good but it feels even better to flake on them ;) hah but seriously, don't hold on to them anymore.
Actually right now, I am waiting on a friend to come and study and eat lunch with me. She is the mother of all flakes so I am praying she will arrive.

Well, if they have no consideration for your feelings they don't sound like true friends. I'm sure you'll find better friends someday, if you get out there and meet some people :)

I have no idea if this is normal or not, but I do the same thing, only get this: I make up people in my head and talk to them when I'm bored or when nobody else is around. My "friends" aren't real friends, they just pretend they are whenever they need something from me. I make up people to give myself a way to express how I feel about everything. I hope you get some better friends, like I want to. Good luck.

Have you confronted them with these issues? If not, be honest and make it clear that these sorts of things bother you. If so, you may have to break it off with them, depending on how bad it is for you.

I know that feeling. I've had friends do that to me too. It's normal to get upset about it.

  • Those don't sound like very good friends. Try to find some people who are more authentic with you, you'll probably feel more satisfied if you do.
