Is it normal my friend wants her boyfriend to get rid of accent?

Just got back from my friend's place where she told me she wants her boyfriend to lose his English accent and even asked me what I think she should do and if I think she should encourage him to try to sound more american. He moved to the USA when he was 17 and he is 24 now and he sounds pretty much completely English but I guess she doesn't want that.

I ask her why and she doesn't respond. Is this normal? I think it's a little weird..She's been with him a year and a half and she loves him so maybe she's afraid to lose him?

I love how some women supposedly "love" a guy, but want to change him. It makes no sense to me.
I love my wife because of who she is, and I would never want her to change into some creation of my making. She would then not be the person I fell in love with, would she?
This sounds like another girl on a power trip, testing her ability to control this poor fellow. He should mount his steed and ride away as fast as that steed can gallop, with nary a look back.

You ask me how old she is and then when I tell you she is 27, this is the best you can come up with?
You really are a sorry excuse for a human being and a rather poor troll, as well.

No reason to get flustered. Sounds like he wants to get butt plowed on your boat while he pisses in the ocean.

He could also ask her to change her accent to sound more English?
I wonder how she'd feel about that? That's just as ridiculous as her request that he change his accent.

She sounds like a control freak.

she sounds like a complete fucking idiot to be honest . I think she should change her blood type for him , otherwise he wont be happy . When she does that , then he will drop the accent ... what a little control freak .

    Future abuser, perhaps?

One of the signs of a abusive relationship is if your partner tries to control you, this is controlling behaviour.

She should love and accept him for him. That would been a healthy relationship.

Even better, he may end up with a trans-atlantic accent :D

You know, the English "High classes" developed the accent in order to further their superiority over the "commoners". Most of the pilgrims were of the lower classes, and spoke as such. Therefor the American accent, is the "Original" British accent. A few centuries later and everyone over there is suddenly talking like a rich person \^-^/

I know my answer didn't really help, but hey "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GD6qtc2_AQA"

Yet there is no reason to keep the old way of talking as time has indeed changed...don't get me wrong, I still believe that chick is kinda fucked up for simply saying that is love but there is no need to be so serious over accents...

It's more than a little weird. Everyone has some sort of accent. His is English. So? And if he continues to be around people with an American English accent, his will slowly change to that.
