Is it normal my friend said this about english men?

One of my friend's friends is English. I met him once before and saw him again a few days ago so although I don't know him that well, I know what he's like. He's a really nice guy and quite intelligent as well.

The other day, it was that friend's birthday so we all went to his place to celebrate and the English guy was there because he lives in America now. There was two women there are well but we didn't really know them well.

Anyway, my close guy friend came with me (I'm a guy too) and we were at my friend's place and he seemed to be totally cool and all but then when we're sitting there eating snacks in the corner away from the others for two minutes, he says, "What an arrogant man. He thinks so highly of himself, what does Mark (our friend whose birthday it was) see in him?" I just said he seems really nice to me, what did he do to do? Then when we're having cake and beer and after about 20 minutes, he's drunk and he walked up to the English guy and said "I hate English men, you all think you're so awesome and charming, go to hell" and he just say there as the English guy walked off.

I was so embarrassed and made him leave immediately.

is it normal he said this/ why would he? He has never even been to England and this is the only English guy he's ever met that I know of.
