Is it normal my friend randomly turned vegetarian a year ago and now she is

Telling me she's turning vegan. When I ask her why, she has always said for the animals yet she eats dairy all the time and she wears fur boots, REAL fur boots. She also doesn't mention animals or anything, ever and I live with her so I'd know. She doesn't even watch anything regarding animals.

So Is this normal or is she just trying to be cool? She asked me to get her vegan cook books for christmas - meanwhile she has about 10 of them sitting on our bookshelf in our living room that she never used!

What is this? Is this a trendy thing? She's 19 and has been a vegan since she was 18 and ate TONS of meat and fish before that. Literally just a year ago, she ate more meat and fish in her diet than the average person. She used to cook chicken dishes and then just stopped and said she was a vegetarian and now she's saying she's vegan... but she doesn't mention animal cruelty..

She could have done it for the supposed health benefits. Being vegan has the potential to be a healthy lifestyle, and it is better than globs of processed food, but it's extremely difficult to get the appropriate nutrition when your diet is limited like that...you have to be extremely diligent and careful to make sure to make sure you're getting what you need.

I've met people that have gone vegan because they had an eating disorder. When you have an incredibly restricted diet like that, it's very easy to tell people that you "can't" eat, and to avoid meals, trips to restaurants, and high calorie foods in the name of dietary or ethical choices. Apparently it makes a really good ruse for disordered eating.

I went Vegan for a month and it wasn't what my body needed.

Being vegan has nothing to do with animal rights by definition.

I HATES FAGGOTS but that doesn't mean I'm religious.

So then, you did it to be trendy? Because veganism is only good for those who are against eating animals/fish. It offers no health benefits.

I said VEGAN not this "ism" bull shit. Vegan is a diet plain and simple.

I don't care about stupid trends. I'll change my diet for health benefits, but there were no benefits.

People change all the time, maybe she just wanted a lifestyle change?

I think maybe she has a more practical mindset, like there is no use in getting rid of the fur boots because she got them long ago but what she buys from now on could influence the market. Eating dairy may just be part of the transtition and she plans to quit eventually. As for not watching anything about animals, if youre talking about animal cruelty videoes, why make yourself upset for no reason? Same with talking about animal cruelty if things have already been settled.
