Is it normal my family gossip this much?

I'm 18 btw, female.

I am talking about extended family. Conversation between second cousins, uncles, grandparents, parents, nieces, step family etc etc.

One member of my family will find something out about another member and without their permission or against their permission will ring all other family members to tell them. They do this about goods things like starting uni, getting promotions and marriage; and bad things like illness, divorce and debt problems.

Also if a family member wants to know information about other members, they may ring other members and ask through them, especially if that person refuses to talk to them in person.

Is this normal?

    I have family members that are like this. It's why I don't tell them anything about me.

    My family is like this it can be aggravating because the facts get all kinds of screwed going through several people. I always tell them if you want to know something about me or are worried/concerned call me not another family member.
