Is it normal my doctor is nuts?
So I have insomnia, get 3 hours if that a day.
I've had this for a while and the last time I went, he put me on prescription meds that didn't work and told me to join a jogging team lols. I said I had heart palps and muscle weakness and he said that's not risky, don't worry.
So this time when I'm there, he does the same thing and writes me another prescription and asks me how much sleep I used to get. I said 8 hours and he said "oooh that wasn't good either". I said why? I felt completely energized when I used to get 8 and if I got anything less than 8 like 7, I was sleepy throughout the day. I told him that my body just slept for 8 hours, always. All my friends sleep for 8-9 hours anyway.
He told me that sleeping for 8 hours is not healthy and that he thinks I should get no more than 5 1/2 because that's what he gets. He said that's optimal and that I should feel fine with that because he does. He literally said "Well I wake up at 5am and go to sleep by 11:30-12:00am and I'm fine on 5 or 5 1/2 hours. So I said "that's good but I don't think everyone has the same optimum levels for sleep because I don't personally know anyone my age (21) who can feel awake with 5 hours. I told him that I used to sleep 8 hours in high school and I was always tired unless I got 9 on the weekends. He said that he doesn't feel that's normal and that if he had a teenage son, he would make sure he got nothing more than 6 hours of sleep.
I literally kept an argument with him because it was making NO SENSE to me but he insisted that he was right because he felt fine on it. He said "I sometimes get sleepy with 5- 5 1/2 hours but then I just take a 20 minute nap and I'm okay. I think you should just wake up earlier, what time do you wake up/ go to sleep?" I said I stay in bed for 7-8 hours to keep falling back and I go to bed at 11 and wake up around 7. He said "I could never wake up so late. Why don't you try waking up at 5am instead and then join a jogging club, that's what I'm involved in. I wake up at 5 and then jog until 6. Then when I get home from work, I go swimming in my gym for two hours between 5-7pm.
So at the end, he just hands me the prescription and says, "this might work for you, it works for others but I would join a jogging team" A jogging team on no sleep...how absurd. I can't even walk without feeling dizzy/light-headed. He's also aware I get heart palps when I try to exercise. What advice.
WHAT? IIN? Does my Doc think I'm exactly like HIM? lol
