Is it normal my dandruff won't go away!!

Like the title says, I've had dandruff for a long time. If it helps, I'm African-american and my hair is relaxed. Sometimes my scalp is really, really, unbearably itchy. I put that oil sheen stuff in my hair, but I don't really know what I'm doing. I've tried using Sulphur 8 on my scalp, it worked for a very short time, but then it suddenly got way worse! My dandruff is soooo bad, and it's embarrassing. I take a lot of time in the morning to brush off any visible flakes. I don't know what to do.

I had this problem in the junior high. I have black hair and it showed clearly :/
I got rid of it by:
    1. Eating the healthiER options for lunch. I capitalized er because you don't have to go crazy and eat lettuce for the rest of your life. If you had a choice between a pizza and a wrap, get the wrap.
    2. Go to your hair salon. Get a trim. Shave your head. Do what you want with your hair, but ask the ladies for help. They don't work at HAIR salons for nothing. It might be embarrassing at first, but they get it.
    3. Relax. Stress can cause your hair to go CRAZY! My hair didn't grow more than 2 in. one year. The average hair growth is 1/2 in. per month. That's six in. every year.
    4. Try different shampoos and treatments at drugstores. Tea tree oil, head & shoulders, whatever works.
    5. Don't overbrush. It tires out your hair. It gets dull, flat, and causes split ends. If you count your strokes, it shouldn't go past 50 or 60.
    6. Lastly (I know this is long, sorry), this is my personal little thing. My mother was a short-lived cosmetologist, so she made me massage my scalp. Sounds weird, right? Lay on your back on a bed. Make your head go off the bed so your shoulders are on the edge. Then massage your scalp. Use your fingers or a scalp massager. If you feel blood rush to your head, good. Blood flow to you head increases hair growth and natural oils.

Hope your dandruff gets better! ^_^

A man at work says he gets it when his diet is unbalanced. When he's not eating enough fresh fruit and vegetables or drinking enough water.

Me too. I've tried every product I can, it didn't go away. Then I tried showering without a product, and it didn't go away either.

Look into diluted monistat. It really takes away my scalp flakiness.

Wash your hair regularly and scrub properly with head and shoulders. If needs be just shampoo twice.

The relaxer is drying your scalp out. I got a relaxer only once (full head) since my hair is really curly and it dried my scalp LIKE CRAZY. I had constant flakes and even after I stopped relaxing my scalp was still dry. I'm all natural now and actually started eating healthier, and my scalp isn't dry anymore! Also deep condition!

As Dappled said, a balanced diet can help with your dandruff problems. Make sure you eat plenty of fresh fruits and veggies. Dark greens have a lot of vitamins essential for proper body function. Also, healthy fats like nuts, olive oil, and fish oil may help. And sometimes a Vitamin A difeciency will give you dandruff.

  • I've heard that vinegar helps. Try that, at least it's natural.
