Is it normal my coworker is still english?

He's a guy, age 22. Everyone at my work practically drools over his accent and he keeps talking about losing it. He says he came here when he was 15 and despite writing American in school and trying to blend in a bit with kids when he was in HS and even now, he still hasn't lost it but wants to. He says if you're young, you often lose it and he wants to be American because he doesn't like people knowing he's English.

He says he moved here to be with his Aunt because his Mother passed away and he was an only child. His Aunt is American and he's lived here for 7 years now but his accent is exactly the same/just as thick. He doesn't even sound American at all. I think there's maybe one word he says more American than British but that's it. Like, instead of Awwnt, he says Ant like us haha.

is it normal he still sounds English?

I don't get it either. He should've turned at least Mexican by now.

I know this is really random, but I just love that Craig Ferguson! He's not English of course, he's Scottish, and I just love him! Sean Connery on the other hand doesn't do a thing for me. I'm just sayin'.

Maybe he can't do the American accent well enough or is afraid to grab onto it. Some people aren't naturally good at picking up accents so it's 50/50.

Considering how quickly an actor can pick up an accent for a film, I would think anyone could do it if they really chose to. If they find it difficult and have an honest desire to change their accent, there are always coaches available, for a fee. So I'm guessing he likes being a bit different or he'd have done something about it.

You mean a GOOD actor. It's not the easiest task, really. That's why some actors are good at it and others aren't. Should be the same for non-actors. No?
