He says he wants to remove the whole nail on his pointer finger so he can finger me vigorously without it scraping me. I think this is an insane idea, in which the risks and cons heavily outweigh the cons. What do you think?

Uh, no, that's not really normal. What's wrong with just trimmed nails? You should tell your boyfriend it's fine with his fingernail still on...he doesn't need to rip it off.
if he wants to like take off his whole fingernail to not hurt you i would totally recommend just using a condom on your finger.. i heard of some guys that put condoms on their finger and fingering their girl like that lol
too extreme....I can see keepings his nails clean neat and trimmed , but take it off...thats f' ed up
I have had a finger nail ripped off before. It is NOT fun and can easily get infected. You want to know what it feels like?. You know that feeling when you accidentally scrap against stucco on a house or wall?. Now imagine you did that and then took a handful of salt and mashed it into your open wound then times that by 9000. Thats what it feels like to loose a finger nail. Everything you touch hurts.
For the benefit of the human race. Anyone who thinks it would be a good idea to willingly loose a finger nail. Should be strapped to a rocket then shot into the sun. So their idiotic bloodline ceases to exist.
