Is it normal my boyfriend rages over mario kart 8

My boyfriend is pretty damn good at Mario Kart, but if he loses he goes absolutely apeshit. He will explode and start screaming out things like, "Piece of shit motherfucker thinks he's better than me! No, I'm better! Fuck that motherfucker! I am better than that piece of shit! I do not lose!"

He has thrown his phone against the wall twice.

One time we were planning to have a date. I got all dolled up and ready. He was playing it while waiting on me and ended up getting incredibly angry over it. Then he was like "I'm not going anywhere. This ruined my mood for the day." He continued to play the game though I begged him to stop. He ignored anything I said and continued to scream curse words at the player who was beating him.

He understands that it's just a game and that Mario Kart is half luck (because of the item boxes) but he can't help his anger.
