Is it normal my aunt is trying to make me turn vegetarian?

My aunt became vegetarian two years ago because she says she thinks of the animals.

But my aunt has deficiencies because of her lack of supplementing/vitamining. Her doctor asked her to add these supplements and vitamins and she says she shouldn't have to so she doesn't add them. I told her to eat meat and fish to get taurine, b vitamins, omega 3's, etc so she could be better. She doesn't want to because she is "natural".

She keeps lecturing me and yesterday as I was eating my chicken salad sandwich, she was like "that makes me sad. I wish you could see that chicken as a life, it had its entire life ahead of it and now you're eating it"

Honestly, this doesn't make me stop eating it because I see chicken as food, as it is supposed to be but her talking about it like that annoys me SO much. When I go to her house now to visit, she makes vegetarian patties that taste like dry wall! I don't eat it and she gets annoyed with me. I see her twice a week so we're close but apparently separated by diet.

She even FBed me and sent me two vegetarian posts on my wall these past 3 months. I am so sick of this, I tell her I don't ever plan to do that because meat and fish ARE food and I want to enjoy life instead of depriving myself and she's like "I understand you like meat and fish, I did too, I loved it but you have to sacrifice for the animals what they did for us"

It's like vegetarianism is her religion or something. Is this normal for an aunt to do this? I'm like 2 seconds away from cutting ties with her and she was my closest family member.

She's rabidly codependent in my not so humble opinion.

I'd be a troll and start flooding her face book wall with bacon and things lol

  • "But my aunt has deficiencies because of her lack of supplementing/vitamining."

    I seriously doubt that.

It's quite telling just how defensive you omnivores get in response to any criticism of your lifestyle. Seriously, "Fuck you! Bacon!" is not an argument.

And if her veggie burgers taste like "dry wall," she's doing it wrong.

And it's also quite telling of how judgmental you herbivores are. See how this works?

Livestock conditions are atrocious and that's why I could never eat meat guilt-free but a lot of people are pretty ignorant to what's going on.

How could you possibly think "I seriously doubt that." Apparently even her doctor believes she has deficiencies in her diet.
This lunatic sounds exactly like the hundreds of "vegetarians" I've met in my lifetime who are vegetarians only because they don't eat animal products. They know nothing of the dietary compensations necessary to form a balanced diet if one ceases to eat animal protein.
Perhaps I am assuming a lot too, but one cannot just stop eating meat and become a "vegetarian" without having serious "deficiencies because of her lack of supplementing/vitamining."
You seem to be the overly "defensive" one here.

      • Deficient in what? PLENTY of protein and iron can be obtained from plant sources.

Yes you are absolutely right, IF and it's a huge if, one bothers to learn what these sources of protein are. However, the people I'm speaking of, one of whom this girl's aunt seems to be, are the air heads who just stop eating meat, with no thought of how to make up for the dietary changes this necessitates, which is what I've said 3 times now.
If someone chooses to educate themselves to insure a proper, safe diet as a vegetarian, then of course it can be healthy and safe, if not a great deal more expensive and labor intensive than a non-vegetarian diet.

Wow, don't you think anybody can find anything to prove ANY point on the web? Your little cost analysis is just plain stupid.
If you are trying to eat healthy are you going to eat supermarket pasta? Can you even estimate the quantity of beans necessary to equal a kilo of tuna; it sure isn't one to one.
Your little chart is just more vegetarian brainwashing. I've never met a true vegetarian who eats white rice (or white bread), so why are they on the list?
              You aren't making any sense.
Good quality, fresh vegetables are every bit as expensive as good steak. Sorry dear, I know you are young, but in time I hope you will learn that quality is always worth the cost, no matter what you eat.

Actually, vegetarianism does not cause any deficiency in nutrition. Nice try troll.

You should tell her about the displaced bunnies that are now homeless because of the soy crop that went in. Easy picking for birds of prey and coyotes. Poor bunnies....all because we just had to have more fake meat. :(

Plants a.k.a vegetables have life like animals too. She has to sacrifice from eating vegetables too because of what they give to us.

It's fine if she's a vegetarian, and it's fine if you aren't. She needs to learn that she can't go shoving her beliefs down other's throats. If you tell her no, you'd rather not, but she still does...shove your beliefs down her throat in the form of a Big Mac.

Don't actually do that, maybe just explain to her that you are a seperate person from her and thus have your own set of beliefs. If she doesn't like it, you could always cut ties with her until she smartens up.

I love how she want's to be respected for her choices but doesn't feel the need to respect you for yours . I wouldn't put up with this , it's fine if someone wants to be vegan or vegetarian etc. I don't mind , it's not my diet . I can not stand however when they feel the self righteous need to harass everyone else around them to join along . I am grateful for what the animals offer to us and I don't waste food or take it for granted however I refuse to be vegetarian just because someone wants me to ? This type of behaviour is my pet peeve , I would tell her she has to respect my lifestyle as I respect hers and back off or things will drift apart . If you love meat , see the health benefits of it .. eat it and don't let someone try to control you and mind fuck you like she's some Charles manson figure of the vegetarian world . I get really annoyed by these people behaving like this , I would probably tell her , hey ! I am doing great these days . I got a new job in a slaughter house .. but that would be me being a prick .

Keep up the good fight sister. You may yet be able to save your favorite family member from her own folly. Why not buy her a book on the necessary dietary substitutions one MUST make, if one ceases to eat animal protein.

Tell her something like, "For every animal you don't eat I'm gonna eat 5"
