Is it normal irritated when someone calls me hun, dear or sweetie?

I get really annoyed when someone calls me hun, dear or sweetie. For example, today I was turning in a job application to the manager and he called me "dear" twice.

I rarely let my irritation show. I stay polite and calm when I'm addressed like this, but afterwards I'm really annoyed and borderline pissed.

Maybe I think of these terms as being somehow demeaning? I look sort of young/naive so that might be it.

I do not have a significant other, but I'm guessing I might feel way differently if he called me sweetie or dear.

IIN?

I think the only time it's acceptable is when someone is wayyyy older than you, but it's still kinda creepy if its some old dude saying that to me. idk how to take it then

I don't think you should take it in a negative fashion. Apparently you look sweet, nice, cute, etc. It's more of a compliment, really. I would say it would depend HOW they say it and how they look at you.

Yeah, I don't like that either. I feel like they're being condescending.
